Reactions & Updates : Sourav Ganguly - The New Joint Secretary for CAB from July 27, 2014

Sourav Ganguly is set to be elected unopposed as the joint secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal during the AGM Today (July 27) , marking the former India captain's first stint with cricket administration.

The deadline for filing candidatures for the election to be held on July 27 ended on July 20. CAB treasurer Biswarup Dey confirmed that Sourav Ganguly and Subir Ganguly are the only two candidates to have submitted nomination papers for the two posts of joint secretaries. While Subir is an incumbent joint secretary, Sourav will replace Sujan Mukherjee who is to complete his maximum term of four years. ( Content Courtesy : PTI, XtraTime & Telegraph )

Reactions :

Jagmohan Dalmiya : "I've always welcomed cricketers in administration and I would warmly welcome him in the CAB.  Only a cricketer can understand the demands and problems of a cricketer. I hope his inclusion will help Bengal cricket a great deal."

Gundappa Viswanath : "He has proved himself as a cricketer. It's good that he's taken up this this role, he's got tremendous knowledge of cricket. It will be good  for bengal cricket."

Sourav Ganguly on the eve of the AGM meet where he will be elected unopposed as the Joint Secretary Today, Spoke to The Telegraph from England. Here are some excerpts from the Interview.

Thoughts on the eve of becoming an administrator ?

It's going to be something different, something new. I'll do my best to take bengal cricket forward.

Pressure to deliver ?

I've been used to pressure. In any case, pressure is what you make of it.

Time Factor ?

As I've told you, I'll give the time that's demanded.

Role Model Administrator ?

Haven't thought about it.

First day in CAB as joint Secretary ?

I'm scheduled to return home after the third test, which is to end on July 31.

July 27, 2014 :

Jagmohan Dalmiya, re-elected unopposed as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal for yet another term, on Sunday hoped to again "team up" with newly-elected joint secretary Sourav Ganguly.

"I think it's a very good development as when I was the BCCI president, he was the captain (of Indian cricket team). As a team we've worked very well. I feel this team will work again," Dalmiya told reporters after being re-elected president in its 83rd annual general meeting here. At the time of AGM when Ganguly was being elected joint-secretary in absentia succeeding Sujan Mukherjee, the cricketer-turned-commentator was seen handing over the first Test cap to debutant medium pacer Pankaj Singh in Southampton, England.

To many insiders it was 'unprecedented' in CAB's history that a joint-secretary was not part of the annual meeting but Dalmiya said the retired left-handed batsman would do justice to his new role as cricket administrator. "He has told us that he would be able to devote time (to CAB). Be it cricket captaincy or work related to administration he has done exceedingly well in the past, we're hopeful he would manage well," Dalmiya said.
